A Haunting Good Time in Prince William County/Manassas, Va.!
With spectacular fall foliage, ghost tours, festivals and even haunted winery events, Prince William County (www.visitpwc.com) is stirring up quite a brew for the bewitching season.
The pumpkin patch fun begins at Old Mine Ranch in Dumfries. By the light of the moon, the Ranch also is offering night hayrides all month. The 25th Annual Fall Jubilee takes over the Main Street community of Historic Old Town Manassas with children’s activities, art, entertainment and music on October 6.
The Octoberfest Golf Tournament gets into full swing at scenic General’s Ridge Golf Course on October 7. Admission is free to the City of Manassas Park’s Fall Festival featuring entertainment, scarecrow making, pumpkin decorating, crafts and food on October 13 at Costello Park.
Ghost Tours from 7:30-9:30 p.m. bring to life stories from yesteryear on October 19-20 and 26-28 at the site of what’s believed to the oldest standing home in Prince William County -- Rippon Lodge in Woodbridge. Reservations are required; tickets, $5 adult and $3 children 12 and under.
October 19-20 & 26-27, the Occoquan Merchants Association hosts one-hour, walking Ghost Tours of the charming waterfront town at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. $10 per person. Reservations are required. The spooky tales begin at 125 Mill Street.
Brave the Haunted Dinner in the Barrel Room at The Winery at LaGrange in Haymarket from 6:30 - 9 p.m. on October 20th. $99 plus tax and gratuity; reservations are required.
Prince William County’s Division of Historic Preservation hosts the Grand Opening and 5th Annual Harvest Festival at Rippon Lodge Historic Site on October 20th. Admission is free. Tours of Rippon Lodge, storytelling, hayrides, a petting zoo, face painting, educational exhibits, games, crafts and living history displays are set from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m at 15520 Blackburn Road in Woodbridge.
Enjoy swimming, games, candy, prizes, contest and a maze at the Spooky Splash Bash at the Chinn Aquatics and Fitness Center in Woodbridge on October 26.
Three chances to thrill October 26-27: Brentsville Haunted Woods offers hayrides and refreshments from 7-10 p.m., beginning at the Brentsville Courthouse Center. Tickets are $7 adults; $4 ages 3-17; under 3 free. The Trail of Terror hayride weaves through Signal Hill Park from 7-10 p.m. Not recommended for children under age 6! Tickets are $3 per person. And the one-hour, two-mile Haunted History Hike winds through Leesylvania State Park in Woodbridge. 7- 9:30 p.m. $2 per person; $6 for a group of four; parking fee is waived for hike participants.
On October 27 2007, costumed interpreters host the Spirited Past of Manassas. Regular admission is $15 for the 45-minute tours beginning at 6:30, 7:15 and 8 p.m. and ending at Manassas Museum with hot cider and cookies. Also on October 27, the Town of Dumfries and the Dumfries-Triangle Rescue Squad host the 6th Annual Fall Festival with face painting, crafters, community booths and the Old Mine Ranch Petting Zoo from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. at Merchant Park.
October 27-28, the Manassas Ballet Theatre takes center stage at Metz Middle School with the “Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” featuring the music of the Prince William Symphony Orchestra. Saturday 7 p.m. and Sunday 5 p.m.
