PRINCE WILLIAM FOREST PARK HISTORY

Established in 1936, this modern day outdoor haven has dramatically changed over the years. During 1936 this land became apart of the National Park System and then after serving multiple uses. In 1941 the Civilian Conservations Corps had constructed roads, bridges, dams and five rustic cabin camps for inner-city children.

During World War II the park served the nation as a top secret military installation. The Office of Strategic Services operated training schools, but by 1946 the park was returned to public use under the National Park System. It was renamed Prince William Forest Park in 1948 after the county in which it is located, becoming the modern day site with hiking trail, campground, cabins, picnic facilities and more.
