Prince William Historic Preservation Lecture: Longstreet at Gettysburg: The Creation of a Scapegoat and Perpetuation of a Lie

Free, donations accepted

Author and Historian Cory Pfarr will examine how an agenda-driven, postwar campaign against General James Longstreet’s alleged actions at the Battle of Gettysburg has been perpetuated by numerous twentieth century and modern historians for well over a century.  By way of cherry-picking source material, , stretching the bounds of historical interpretation, and even sometimes advancing blatant supposition, many historians have regularly misconstrued Longstreet's Gettysburg performance. As a result, because of his significant role there, and despite the publication of hundreds of books on Gettysburg, several historians have often presented students and scholars of the war with an incomplete history of the Confederate side of the battle.

The lecture will be held in the upstairs Ballroom at Old Manassas Courthouse located at 9248 Lee Avenue, Manassas, VA  For more information call 703-792-4754.
