The Winery at La Grange and Nokesville Winery competed against more than 75 other wine producers to take home prestigious silver medals at the 2024 Virginia Governor's Cup.

Hosted by the Virginia Wineries Association, in partnership with the Virginia Wine Board and the Virginia Vineyards Association, The Virginia Governor’s Cup celebrates quality winemaking across the Commonwealth. More than 750 entries of Virginia’s best wines were sampled and ranked, following blind tastings carried out by a distinguished panel of judges.

La Grange

The Winery at La Grange

Located in the heart of Haymarket, Virginia at the foot of Bull Run Mountain, the Winery at La Grange is a 20-acre estate with space to enjoy picnics and live music during summer and a cozy, fire-lit parlor room in the winter. The Winery at La Grange's 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon and 2021 Petit Manseng both won silver medals.

  • The Cabernet Sauvignon, also a bronze medalist at the 2023 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, presents inviting aromas of cherry and cedar, with flavors of rhubarb and black cherry, finishing with light tannins and hints of cola and cocoa.
  • The Petit Manseng offers a sensory experience with tropical fruit, almond, and honey aromas, followed by pineapple, peach, and lemon curd flavors, and a bright, acidic finish with notes of pineapple and salinity.

Nokesville Winery

Nokesville Winery

Also bringing home a silver medal, Nokesville Winery is a startup family-owned winery and vineyard open on the weekends and ready to show why it is worthy of its win. Taking pride in soil-to-bottle production, they strive to grow quality grapes from which to make their quality wine.

  • Nokesville Winery’s 2022 Norton won a silver medal by boasting a rich, fruity aroma of plums and tart cherries, with soft tannins and a smooth vanilla and coffee finish on the palate. Aged in both French and Hungarian oak, it promises depth and complexity.

"Congratulations to the tastemakers at La Grange and Nokesville wineries," said Christina Winn, executive director, Prince William County Department of Economic Development and Tourism. “Agritourism is an essential part of growing our diverse business ecosystem and an important objective in our county’s strategic plan. We are excited about finding new ways to elevate distinctive visitor experiences in Prince William County."
